Major Arcana and Fool’s Journey

Tarot card reading has been around since ancient times. It is about wisdom and even astrology. When you start doing tarot card readings, the power of the messages can come at any time during the reading. Each of the cards has their own personality and messages and each has a story to tell.

Storytelling is a big part of tarot card reading, and when you look at the cards, you have to figure out how to get from one point to the next, which is the question to the right answer.

The most important thing in tarot card storytelling is the story of “The Fool’s Journey.” This is a tale about what helps people to know that they are on a journey, where they are on the journey, and when they will get to their future.

The Fool’s Journey and the Major Arcana

This is part of “The Fool’s Journey” along with the Major Arcana cards:

  • The different stages in life.
  • The lessons that impact you.
  • The way to change your path.

By knowing that there are 22 steps to this journey, you can see that you can learn about your past, present, and future through the Major Arcana cards that you draw.

The Beginning: The Fool

This starts with The Fool card, and this can be exciting and a start to your journey. This card is not experienced and doesn’t know that he might even be at the edge of a cliff that he might walk off. He doesn’t know what to expect when it comes to his new journey, but he is excited and full of good intentions.

As the opportunities come, he hopes that he can do whatever he wants in his life.

The Magician and The High Priestess

He will start with the mindset of The Magician, of what is going on in his life and what he has in front of him like a wand, sword, cup, and pentacle. He will use these things to help him to make his dreams real. He thinks that by having magic and working with the universe, he can do anything.

The High Priestess can show up on the journey when you start to see your own spiritual and physical world in a deeper place. This is where your intuition lies, and she welcomes The Fool into her world where there is divine wisdom and knowledge. She teaches him that not everything real is something that can be seen.

The Empress and The Emperor

There are questions on his journey, and his mother shows up as The Empress, and she is the connection between the earth and everything that has to do with your body, including fertility and abundance that you might get.

The father then comes, and he is The Emperor, and he sets the rules and reminds The Fool that there are traditions that he should never give up on, and they can keep him grounded as he goes to his next level.

The Hierophant and The Lovers

The Fool will look for teachers who have been there before him and who are spiritual. When he does, he finds The Hierophant, and he sees different cultures and religions that have been shaped by the teachers that are teaching him.

Since he has been alone so long, he wants someone to go with him on his journey, and he looks for a partner. He finds that he can form a union, and this is The Lovers, which teaches him to balance his life and to look at his feminine and masculine energies.

The Chariot and Strength

Since he has learned so much up till now, The Fool knows that there is success in being disciplined. He goes to The Chariot and works towards his goals, knowing that he can reach anything if he tries hard enough.

He has the inner Strength to help him, and he has courage. He learns to work towards his goals, and he knows that with The Chariot, even though the battles are long, they help him to have more self-control and to grow.

The Hermit and The Wheel of Fortune

As he keeps learning, The Fool looks for a way to have alone time so that he can reflect on things he had in his life. He becomes The Hermit and then leaves and tries to understand why the world works the way that it does. In isolation, he sees that everything connects with the universe, and the universe plans everything.

The Wheel of Fortune shows him exactly what is meant to happen and what fate he has. This can be both good and bad depending on how it turns.

Justice and The Hanged Man

But he also knows that the universe is behind everything that happens and there will always be Justice when it is needed, and everything he does has consequences. Justice can balance a situation and can resolve legal things. There is always retribution and karma.

Knowing he is supported, he feels like he can take a break. As The Hanged Man, he is safe to look at the world from a different place because he knows that the universe will take care of him.

Death and Temperance

This is important, and he gets rid of his ego, Death, where he was able to get rid of things and wipe his slate clean. This is where more opportunities come up and where there is peace.

With Temperance, he realizes he needs to have balance and to be patient, and he should keep finding new things to try. He doesn’t always have to take action right away.

The Devil and The Tower

He pauses in life, and he starts to move forward. He then realizes that he is being held back by his emotions, his finances, and his physical being. This limits him, and so The Devil forces him to find out where he is holding himself back and refusing to let go of things that no longer serve him.

The Tower comes to help The Fool by helping him to let go of the attachments, and even though it feels scary, it’s best for him. This is what the universe wants to do to make him free.

The Star, The Moon, and The Sun

The light comes to him from The Star, and it makes him feel hope and renewed. This is the light that he has. The Fool feels inspired to shine and to show his real self.

But The Moon, which is opposite, shows fears he has that might stop him from being happy. The light casts shadows, and the old fears come to the surface because The Star shines so brightly.

Once he is no longer afraid, he allows the light to shine, and The Sun becomes part of him. He gets renewed and is able to get in touch with his soul purpose. He no longer hides from the world or from himself.

Judgement and The World

He aligns with the path in front of him, and his old ego is gone. He sees what his purpose is, and the final Judgement shows that there is no room for him to have false identities, and he can answer his real soul calling.

The journey comes to an end for The Fool. He mastered The World, and now his journey is completed. He learned many lessons, and he now can sit back and celebrate all the things that he accomplished and his victories. But as one journey ends, another journey starts.

Final Thoughts

This shows how the journey through the Major Arcana cards can work. This can help you to understand how storytelling can give you a new light on the lessons that you’re learning.

  3. “The Wheel of Fortune shows fate?” Really? 😏 Sounds more like luck than any divine plan! Life isn’t that simple; we make our own paths without needing cards to tell us what will happen next.

    • “Life isn’t simple”—but neither is understanding our choices! Tarot offers reflections on life’s complexity that can guide us if we’re open to it. 🌈

    • ‘Fate’ sounds too convenient for my taste. If you believe in tarot as fate, then are you saying you have no control over your life decisions? That’s a slippery slope!

  8. Honestly, I don’t get what all the fuss is about. Tarot reading seems like a bunch of hocus pocus to me. 😒 How can someone draw cards and think they have any real significance in life? Just doesn’t make sense.
